The Backrooms – The Internet’s Most Terrifying Mystery
In a small, forgotten town surrounded by dense forests, an old legend whispered through generations spoke of a cursed skeleton. The elders told of a man who once lived there centuries ago, a wealthy merchant obsessed with gold and power.
They say the skeleton still roams at night, clattering through the streets, searching for the gold he lost and the forgiveness he never received. The townspeople avoid the forest after sunset, for those who wander too deep often hear the sound of bones rattling, followed by an eerie whisper calling their name.
One stormy night, a group of travelers, unaware of the legend, sought shelter in the abandoned chapel on the edge of the forest. The walls were covered in strange carvings, and a cold wind seemed to seep from the cracks in the stone. As darkness fell, they heard it—the faint sound of footsteps, slow and deliberate, growing closer.
The doors slammed shut on their own, and in the flickering candlelight, they saw him—a skeleton dressed in the tattered remnants of a nobleman’s clothes, his hollow eye sockets glowing with a ghostly light. He moved without sound, except for the chilling scrape of his bony fingers along the wooden pews.
The travelers tried to flee, but the air grew thick, and the shadows stretched unnaturally, trapping them inside. The skeleton pointed at them, his jaw opening as if to speak, but only a low, rattling moan emerged. One by one, the candles went out, and the chapel was swallowed in complete darkness.
By morning, the chapel was empty. No sign of the travelers remained—only new carvings on the walls, telling the story of the cursed merchant, as if warning the next curious souls who might stumble upon the place. The townspeople shook their heads when they heard of it, knowing the skeleton’s hunger for company would never end.
